HELENA — Authorities say a man was killed and three other people were injured when the car they were in went off a cliff on Flesher Pass northwest of Helena.

The Independent Record reports 25-year-old Rory Joseph Kane swerved to miss several deer on Highway 279 early Friday morning. He died at the scene and his three passengers were hospitalized.

Investigators say the roadway was wet at the time. It’s unclear if alcohol or speed played a role in the crash.

The passengers were a 20-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old man. Their names have not been released.

No one in the car was wearing a seat belt.
