BUTTE — The director of the state chemical dependency center, whose medical license was suspended last month due to allegations that he used illegal drugs and refused toxicology screening, has requested a hearing on the suspension.
The Montana Standard reports the Montana Board of Medical Examiners scheduled a hearing for Mark Catalanello on Feb. 23-24.
Catalanello was being monitored by the Montana Professional Assistance Program and his medical license was suspended in April 2004 for using alcohol. The board reinstated his license in 2007. He was a physician at the state psychiatric hospital in Warm Springs and had been medical director at the Montana Chemical Dependency Center in Butte since 2012.
MPAP began receiving reports in August from people concerned that Catalanello may have relapsed. He refused to undergo toxicology screening.
He was placed on administrative leave on Sept. 29.
