MISSOULA — Fire officials in western Montana have released the name of a 90-year-old woman who died in a house fire near Tarkio on Halloween.

John Woodland with the Superior Volunteer Fire Department tells the Missoulian the victim was Sarah Audrey “Dolly” Peden.

Woodland says Peden lived with her son, but was alone with the fire started at about 11 a.m. Saturday.

The home is 16 miles from Superior and Woodland says it was fully on fire when firefighters arrived. The house contained many old newspapers and magazines, making it more difficult to extinguish the fire.

Woodland estimated it was about 4 p.m. when Peden’s remains were located. He says the extensive damage will make it difficult to determine the cause of the fire.
