HAVRE — Police in Havre have arrested an attempted homicide suspect who escaped while being transported through the city by Fort Belknap Indian Reservation police.

Havre schools and other public buildings were placed on lockdown after 29-year-old Gabriel Arkinson escaped early Tuesday afternoon. He was handcuffed and shackled and was wearing a green jumpsuit and orange flip-flops when he jumped out of the transport van.

The Havre Daily News reports Arkinson was apprehended about 90 minutes later in a building that holds the Social Security office and a local pharmacy.

Officers say Arkinson was being held on charges of attempted deliberate homicide, attempted aggravated assault, assault on a peace officer, criminal endangerment and a previous escape charge. Officials did not immediately say what led to the attempted homicide charge.
