Flathead County’s local bus system is expanding to Bigfork, Lakeside and Somers.

Earlier this month, Eagle Transit announced it would start running buses to Bigfork on Mondays and Wednesdays and Lakeside/Somers on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The bus company already offers weekday service in Kalispell, Columbia Falls and Whitefish.

The new Bigfork “express” service originates at Harvest Foods and makes two round trips on Mondays and Wednesdays with stops in Kalispell, Columbia Falls and Whitefish. On Tuesday and Thursday, the bus will start its rounds at the Lakeside Gathering Place, near the community chapel, and then make a stop at the Somers Post Office before looping through Kalispell, Columbia Falls and Whitefish. In between the morning and afternoon trips, the bus will be used for Dial-A-Ride service for people 60 or older. One-way fares on all Eagle Transit services are $1.

Since the late 1980s, Eagle Transit has offered bus service throughout the county. As of 2014, it provided about 95,000 rides annually.
