Woman on Trial for Campground Stabbing Claims Self-defense

Sandra Cantrell is accused of deliberate homicide for stabbing Mark Robert Mullen

DILLON — A 51-year-old woman who is accused of stabbing a Butte man at a southwestern Montana campground said on the stand that she did so in self-defense.

Sandra Cantrell is accused of deliberate homicide for stabbing Mark Robert Mullen in August 2014 before her common-law partner Christopher Lee Stiles dealt the lethal blow with a stick.

Both Stiles and Cantrell testified that Mullen made a sexual advance toward her while they were staying at his campground near Wise River.

Stiles pleaded guilty in March to deliberate homicide.

Jurors will hear closing arguments Friday and then head into deliberation.
