HELENA — Six Montana Army National Guard soldiers have returned home from a deployment to Afghanistan.

Family members, Gov. Steve Bullock and others welcomed the group back on Friday at a guard facility in Helena.

The soldiers are part of Operation Support Airlift Detachment 41, 1st battalion of the 189th General Support Aviation Battalion. They flew aircraft on reconnaissance and surveillance missions for about six months.

Guard spokesman Maj. Chris Lende tells the Independent Record that he couldn’t discuss specifics of their mission but says they were stationed at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
