Gov. Bullock Files for Re-election

Bullock and Gianforte are expected to wage an expensive campaign

HELENA — Gov. Steve Bullock has formally filed to run for a second term.

The Democrat was joined by his family and Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney Monday as he submitted election papers with the Secretary of State’s Office.

Thus far, Bullock is the only candidate to file papers to run for governor. He’ll soon be joined by Bozeman Republican Greg Gianforte, who announced his bid for governor in January but has yet to file papers with the secretary of state.

Neither is expected to have any serious challengers during their respective June 7 primaries.

Bullock and Gianforte are expected to wage an expensive campaign. Campaign finance reports are due Tuesday and could indicate how aggressively both men are courting funders.
