MISSOULA – Spring enrollment numbers at the University of Montana show a continued decline for the school.

KGVO-AM reports that the Mountain Campus saw a 6.5 percent drop in enrollment compared to spring 2015. At Missoula College, which is also managed by UM, the campus saw a 7.5 percent decrease in enrollment.

According to figures from the UM Planning, Budgeting & Analysis web page, the university saw the biggest loss in out-of-state enrollment. International student enrollment dropped by 18.3 percent and non-resident student enrollment dropped by 14.3 percent.

The university is currently working to shrink a budget shortfall caused by ongoing declines in enrollment. In January officials announced they will reduce faculty by 192 positions to help cut costs.
