BILLINGS — Authorities say one woman is dead and six other people have been hospitalized after an SUV veered off Highway 59 and plunged into a ravine near Miles City.

Montana Highway Patrol trooper Brandon Kelm tells The Billings Gazette that the SUV had been carrying four adults and four children when it crashed Tuesday afternoon.

Kelm says the driver overcorrected after the vehicle went off the road, causing the vehicle to roll into a deep ravine.

One woman was ejected from the car and died at the scene. Six people were taken to the hospital.

Several agencies had responded to the scene, including the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, the Montana Department of Transportation and the Broadus Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation.
