HELENA — A former Blackfeet tribal councilwoman has been indicted on federal charges of harboring a fugitive and lying to authorities.
Cheryl Little Dog pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Great Falls. She was released under special conditions.
A grand jury indictment unsealed Tuesday alleges Little Dog hid a South Dakota fugitive named Frank Gallardo in the crawl space of her home.
The indictment alleges she told U.S. marshals and FBI agents that Gallardo had left the area.
Gallardo was wanted on charges of molesting an 8-year-old girl. Officers found him in the crawl space and extradited him to South Dakota.
Little Dog was removed from the tribal council in November over the allegations that she hid Gallardo.
Her attorney, Roberta Cross Guns, did not immediately return a call for comment.
