A 16-year-old male was arrested Friday after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase along U.S. Highway 2.

The Columbia Falls teenager was wanted following an alleged sexual assault involving a 4-year-old girl that happened Friday morning, according to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry.

According to a press release, law enforcement was informed of the assault shortly after 8 a.m. The 16-year-old, who was reportedly suicidal, fled the scene of the incident and deputies made contact with him near Glacier Park International Airport on U.S. Highway 2.

Law enforcement followed the teen before ending the chase at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Montana Highway 35. Deputies used a “PIT maneuver” which forced the teenager to lose control of the vehicle. He was taken into custody soon after.

The incident remains under investigation.
