MISSOULA – The remains of a Vietnam soldier missing since 1968 will be buried with full military honors.

Judi Boyer Bouchard told the Missoulian in an emailed letter that the Army called on the eve of what would have been her brother Alan Boyer’s 70th birthday to say his remains were identified by DNA.

Bouchard wrote that men with the Army Special Forces, the Defense Department’s POW/MIA Accounting Agency and the Army’s chief of casualty operations center Michael Mee delivered the official report on her brother’s disappearance and brought her his medals including the U.S. Armed Forces’ third-highest military decoration, the Silver Star.

Boyer was one of three Green Berets left in the Laos jungle as a helicopter fled heavy fire.

He will be buried June 22 at Arlington National Cemetery.
