The Montana State Parks department is hosting an open house to show off improvements made to the Wayfarers Unit of the Flathead Lake State Park.

The open house is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at the new Flathead Lake Ranger Station.

The new ranger station will provide a public contact station for visitors to gain information about Flathead Lake State Park, the lake and the surrounding communities, state officials say. In addition, there will be a small gift shop and camp store available for visitors to purchase souvenirs. The park’s management staff will also have their offices in the Flathead Lake Ranger Station.

The ranger station is located in the Harry Horn Day Use Area near the entrance of the Wayfarers Unit, just outside of Bigfork. The public is welcome to come and look around the ranger station, talk with park staff, and enjoy some treats at the open house.

Flathead Lake State Park consists of six unique park units located around Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. The park units on the east side are Wayfarers, Yellow Bay and Finley Point and the west side units are West Shore, Big Arm and Wild Horse Island. In addition to boating, swimming and fishing, each park unit offers unique experiences including camping, rental picnic shelters, group camping, hiking, sightseeing, picnicking, and wildlife viewing opportunities.
