BOZEMAN — Bozeman officials will start planning the city’s second high school despite concerns that it will strain the budget and hurt educational quality.
The Bozeman School Board voted 6-1 Monday to approve Superintendent Rob Watson’s recommendation to split up Montana’s largest high school. Watson says he will appoint committees to plan what each high school will offer academically, to select architects and general contractors, to set a budget and to plan the transition.
Bozeman High School currently serves about 2,000 students, a number that’s expected to grow to 2,400 by 2020.
A 31-member advisory committee of parents, teachers, trustees, administrators, students and community members voted in favor of a second school after several months of investigation.
