BOZEMAN — The Montana Transportation Commission, recognizing the increased use of LED technology in the outdoor advertising industry, has approved digital billboards in commercial areas.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports that when the rule change goes into effect later this summer, the ads will have to display for at least 8 seconds, must be static with no flashing lights, and must be 1,000 from an entrance or exit and 2,000 feet from another billboard.
The Secretary of State and the Federal Highway Administration needs to sign off on the rule before it becomes official.
The rule change has faced vocal opposition, with the majority of people at an April 1 public hearing speaking against digital billboards.
