Kalispell Resident Dies in Apartment Fire, 34 Others Displaced

Fire spreads through two apartments Friday night; cause under investigation

A Kalispell resident died inside an apartment after a fire broke out Friday night, according to authorities.

The name of the victim is being withheld until proper notification of family members. A total of 34 individuals have been displaced from their residences because of the fire. The incident is under investigation

The Kalispell Fire Department responded to a structure fire around 8 p.m. at 600 Liberty Street. Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke showing from the second-story apartment window with possible rescues needed. Crews immediately evacuated the building while also conducting fire attack, according to Fire Chief Dave Dedman.

The fire was contained to two apartments and the associated attic areas.

Mutual aid was received from Evergreen Fire, Smith Valley Fire, Kalispell Police Department, Flathead Electric, the American Red Cross and patrons and staff from Faith Free Lutheran Church, who provided a refuge for those displaced until lodging arrangements could be made.
