A 62-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire on June 17 that also temporarily displaced more than 30 Kalispell residents.
The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Susan Denise Lake of Kalispell.
The Kalispell Fire Department responded to a structure fire at around 8 p.m. at 600 Liberty Street. Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke showing from the second-story apartment window with possible rescues needed. Crews immediately evacuated the building while also conducting fire attack, according to Fire Chief Dave Dedman.
The fire was contained to two apartments and associated attic areas.
Mutual aid was received from Evergreen Fire, Smith Valley Fire, the Kalispell Police Department, Flathead Electric and the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
