Man Drowns After Kayak Blown Over at Storm Lake

A gust of wind overturned two kayaks

BUTTE — A 38-year-old man has died in a kayaking accident at Storm Lake near Anaconda in southwest Montana.

The Montana Standard reports that the victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of family.

Anaconda-Deer Lodge Assistant Police Chief Bill Sather says a man who was camping with friends drowned in the incident on Saturday. Sather says he and another man were paddling on the lake when a gust of wind overturned their kayaks.

The one man freed himself and was able to get to shore. However, the victim never surfaced.

The victim’s body was recovered Sunday morning.
