BILLINGS — A man on a bicycle ride with his 6-year-old grandson was struck and killed by a car just west of Park City.

The Montana Highway Patrol says glare from the sun may have contributed to the collision, which happened at about 8 a.m. Wednesday on Old Highway 10. Both the bicyclists and the car were traveling east.

Sheriff Cliff Brophy tells the Stillwater County News that 58-year-old Gary Lowman died at the scene.

Trooper Bill Bullock tells The Billings Gazette the boy was alert and speaking during the ride to the hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening. The patrol says the child, who was wearing a helmet, was not directly hit by the car.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement officers.
