An investigation determined the baby had been smothered

MISSOULA — A 25-year-old registered sex offender and convicted child rapist is charged with deliberate homicide in the suffocation death of a 5-month-old Missoula boy.

Marc Allen Palmer was booked into jail Wednesday on a warrant that set his bond at $500,000. Palmer was scheduled to appear in Justice Court on Wednesday afternoon on charges he killed Brayden Beal.

Court records say emergency responders were called to the home of Palmer’s mother early on March 30 to a report of a child not breathing. An investigation determined the baby had been smothered. Court records say the baby’s mother, Ginny Peck, and the baby were staying with Palmer and his mother. Palmer is not the baby’s father.

Montana’s sexual offender registry says Palmer was sentenced in 2007 for child rape and three counts of child molestation in Washington state.
