Man Dies in Rafting Accident on Yellowstone River

Drowning occurred west of Columbus

BILLINGS — A man in his 50s has drowned after a rafting accident on the Yellowstone River west of Columbus.

Stillwater County officials received a 911 call at about 3:45 p.m. Sunday from a second man who was in the raft, but was able to get to shore.

Sheriff Cliff Brophy says someone found the drowning victim’s body about a mile and a half downriver at about 4:15 p.m. The man was not wearing a life jacket.

The man’s name was being withheld while family members were notified.
