CASPER, Wyo. – Authorities have found a Montana teenager who had been missing since early Wednesday and the man suspected of abducting her has been taken into custody.

The Montana Department of Justice canceled the Amber Alert it issued for 16-year-old Sandy Moore, of Sheridan, Montana, after she was found safe in Casper on Thursday evening.

Madison County Sheriff Roger Thompson tells The Billings Gazette that 60-year-old Rodney Lee Zahn was taken into custody. Thompson described Moore as being mentally delayed.

Officers got a lead to their whereabouts after Moore’s WIC benefits card was used in Dubois. Casper police spotted Zahn’s vehicle and made a traffic stop.

Montana authorities say Zahn is required to register as a violent offender after an aggravated assault conviction in Beaverhead County in 2012. The state’s violent offender registry says Zahn was overdue to verify his address.
