A Flathead County man has pleaded not guilty to felony assault a month after he was arrested for allegedly threatening someone with a knife in downtown Whitefish.

Tracey Jade Johnston appeared in Flathead County District Court on Aug. 18 before Judge Amy Eddy.

According to court documents, the Whitefish Police Department responded to a report of an assault on July 13 at the corner of Central Avenue and First Street in downtown Whitefish. According to two men, Johnston approached them and made threats before trying to kick them and pulled out a knife. Johnston left but returned after a few moments and pulled the knife out a second time.

If convicted, Johnston could face up to 20 years in prison. He is expected to stand trial next year.
