GREAT FALLS — A 42-year-old Poplar woman has denied federal charges that allege she killed a 13-month-old girl in April and put her body in a dumpster.

The Great Falls Tribune reported Janelle Red Dog pleaded not guilty Thursday to first-degree murder under the felony murder rule, second-degree murder and child abuse in the April death of Kenzley Olson.

The first-degree murder charge alleges Red Dog killed Kenzley while committing felony child abuse.

Red Dog initially reported Kenzley missing, but investigators later learned she gave officers false information.

Court records say Kenzley died of blunt force trauma.

Red Dog was taken into custody, but has reserved the right to ask for a detention hearing. Her trial is set for Nov. 21 before U.S. District Judge Brian Morris in Great Falls.
