CASPER, Wyo. — Yellowstone National Park officials have determined that a high-ranking official with the Wyoming Highway Patrol didn’t violate park rules when he posed for a photo near a bison at the park.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports that Highway Patrol Col. Kebin Haller said in a statement Tuesday that Maj. Keith Groeneweg cooperated with park rangers during their investigation and the case has been closed with no further action.
Officials began investigating Groeneweg last week after he posted the photo of him posing behind a bison on Facebook. The image prompted concerns that he had possibly violated a park rule that requires people to stay at least 25 yards from wildlife.
Groeneweg had told park rangers that he was complying with the rule and that the photo appeared closer than he actually was.
