Unbeaten Fairfield takes out Bigfork in Class B playoffs

Eureka 54, Malta 13

Cannan Smith scored three times and Matt Anderson rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Lions to a big playoff win at home against Malta on Saturday.

Eureka (8-1) advanced to the second round of the Class B playoffs and will host Shelby (7-2) next weekend. Shelby edged Huntley Project 40-37 in the first round.

In Saturday’s contest, Eureka jumped ahead 20-0 in the first quarter thanks to two scores by Smith and a 28-yard TD run by Garrett Graves. Graves connected with Hank Dunn on a 27-yard score in the second quarter as Eureka built a 41-0 lead at halftime. Smith added his third TD with a 60-yard punt return. Jake Kindel rushed in a three-yard TD to cap Eureka’s scoring.

Fairfield 56, Bigfork 12

Luke Batson rushed for 99 yards and was 11-for-13 for 204 yards passing to lead unbeaten Fairfield to a victory over Bigfork in the Class B playoffs.

The loss ended the Vikings’ season at 7-2 overall. Matt Farrier capped his remarkable prep career with a rushing touchdown and Augie Emslie connected with Logan Taylor on a 68-yard scoring play.

Fairfield (9-0) had 256 yards rushing and 204 yards passing. Dawson Allen led the Eagles’ defense with had two interceptions.
