Housing for Homeless Veterans Planned at Fort Harrison

The complex would occupy new and repurposed buildings on land owned by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

By Associated Press

HELENA — A planned housing complex at Fort Harrison would give permanent residences to homeless veterans.

The Independent Record reports people can mail comments on the plans to the VA Montana Healthcare System through Nov. 26.

Plans for the project say the complex would occupy new and repurposed buildings on land owned by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Units would have between one and four bedrooms.

People who attended a meeting where the project plans were announced asked questions about transportation and safety.

Officials say weapons will be prohibited and school buses can pick up children living at the complex.

Construction is expected to last 16 months.

The complex could open by summer 2018.
