Postal Inspector: Ballots Were Not Target of Mail Thefts

Billings police received at least 10 reports of stolen mail around Oct. 19

BILLINGS — The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has found that recent mail thefts in Billings have not targeted ballots.

The Billings Gazette reports that Billings police received at least 10 reports of stolen mail around Oct. 19, some of which included absentee ballots.

U.S. Postal Inspector Jeremy Leder says Billings’ local postal inspector worked with police in the matter and found that there was no evidence ballots were the target of the thefts.

Yellowstone County Elections Administrator Bret Rutherford says he hadn’t received additional reports of absentee ballot thefts or calls to invalidate a potentially stolen ballot.
