GREAT FALLS — Police in Great Falls are warning people not to fall victim to scams and thefts this holiday season.
The Great Falls Tribune reports that police have received reports from people that they’ve received telephone calls informing them that they’ve won millions of dollars in a sweepstakes but need to pay $1,400 by credit card in order to collect it.
Sgt. Jason Mitchell with the department says that if something seems too good to be true, it’s probably a scam.
Mitchell says police also are receiving complaints of checks being stolen from mailboxes. He says that checks are being stolen and forged.
Mitchell also says residents shouldn’t leave Christmas gifts inside their vehicles because thieves are targeting them.
