Nobody enjoyed the epic ski season quite like Jay Foster.

The retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and longtime avid skier logged the most vertical feet of any pass holder at Whitefish Mountain Resort this winter, tallying 4.27 million.

Foster is a perennial vert king contender and last won the title in 2014-15. This is his fourth time finishing on top the standings.

Foster edged out another persistent skier and former vert king, Fred Frost, who tallied 4.11 million.

Susan Armstrong logged the third most vertical, 3.63 million.

The resort’s vertical program tracks season passes at each chairlift and lists the mileage online as a fun source for families and friends to follow their ski distance throughout the season. The results are posted online.

This latest winter will go down in the record books at Whitefish Mountain Resort. Big Mountain received 407 inches of snowfall this season, the second most in the last 20 years. The resort ended the season on April 9 with a settled base of 131 inches, or nearly 12 feet.
