The Museum at Central School has a new executive director.

Jacob Thomas, a Michigan native who has worked at numerous museums there, replaced long-time executive director Gil Jordan on April 3.

Jordan was executive director for 12 years and announced last November that he would be retiring.

Thomas grew up in the Detroit-area and became interested in history as a child. He earned a degree in public history from Western Michigan University and later a graduate degree in museum studies from Appalachian State University in North Carolina.

Thomas is no stranger to Northwest Montana, having spent three years working at the Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park in college. Since graduating, Thomas has worked at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, the Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas and, most recently, he served as the curator at the Charlevoix Historical Society in Charlevoix, Michigan.

The museum will be having an event to welcome Thomas and celebrate the contributions of Jordan and his wife, Kimberly Pinter, who is also retiring from the museum, on April 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.
