Retired Judge C.B. McNeil Dies at 80 After Brief Illness

McNeil served on the bench in the 20th Judicial District for 29 years before retiring in September 2013

POLSON — A retired Montana judge who served on the 1972 state constitutional convention has died.

KERR-AM reports that C.B. McNeil passed away Thursday night in Polson after a brief illness at the age of 80.

McNeil was the first judge to serve the 20th Judicial District after being sworn in by his former law firm partner and chief justice of the Montana Supreme Court, Jean Turnage. It was Turnage’s first act as chief justice.

McNeil served on the bench in the 20th Judicial District for 29 years before retiring in September 2013. During his tenure, he presided over more than 27,000 criminal cases and over 13,000 civil cases.
