Daines Sells Out to Oil and Gas Industry

The methane rule puts hundreds of millions of tax dollars back into our communities

By James Walter

Recently, Sen. Steve Daines tried to gut industrial methane pollution standards that protect our energy resources and save Americans money. Luckily for Montanans, Sen. Jon Tester and 50 others stood up for our health and our pocketbooks and voted down the bill.

Companies already waste $330 million a year through venting and flaring on federally owned lands. That’s enough natural gas to power 5 million homes! And, it’s wasted money that should be going toward royalties for our schools and infrastructure. The methane rule puts hundreds of millions of tax dollars back into our communities, and it prevents air pollution that causes asthma attacks and cancer.

The difference was clear: Daines tried to sell us out to the oil and gas industry, and Tester voted to safeguard Montanan’s health, security, and tax dollars. Thank you, Sen. Tester.
