Kalispell’s Tilynne Vasquez won a gold medal for the U.S. at the Cadet Pan American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Vasquez, a soon-to-be sophomore at Flathead High School, won the 108-pound freestyle wrestling division as a member of Team USA. Vasquez won three bouts, including her title bout over Melissa Sisan Jacqueline Fryar of Canada on July 8.

Vasquez was one of nine U.S. women to qualify for the elite global tournament. She had a successful showing at the UWW Women’s Cadet National Championship tournament in Texas last month. Vasquez finished second in her weight-class division of 108 pounds, earning a spot on the USA Wrestling UWW Cadet World Team.

As a freshman last winter, Vasquez earned sixth place among male competitors in the 103-pound division at the Class AA state wrestling tournament and became the first female in Montana history to land all-state honors in wrestling.
