Kaleb Edward Daniels will be sentenced in September

HELENA — A Montana man has been found guilty of attempted deliberate homicide for a shootout with a cabin owner.

The Independent Record reported Wednesday that Kaleb Edward Daniels will be sentenced in September.

Prosecutors say the incident began when a couple arrived at their cabin in December to find Daniels and another man inside it.

Daniels is accused of pointing a handgun at the homeowner and pulling the trigger. Prosecutors say the gun didn’t fire after Daniels pulled the trigger, so he tried to chamber another round. The homeowner then shot the man that was with Daniels, Jory Russell Strizich, which was returned with a shot toward the homeowner by Daniels.

Daniels and Strizich then ran away. Daniels was taken into custody after another homeowner called 911 to report a break in.
