Blacktail Mountain Ski Area is a family-friendly resort in Lakeside that offers skiing and snowboarding for all skill levels with views of Flathead Lake and surrounding mountain ranges.

The ski area winds through 1,000 acres of national forest and provides 1,440 feet of vertical elevation, with a longest run of 1.75 miles. While 20 percent of the runs are considered “expert,” the rest are immediate or beginner, making it a perfect destination for families with varying ski abilities. There is also a terrain park with jumps, rails and a box.

The resort is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Additionally, Blacktail Mountain’s cross-country ski trails have been expanding over the years and gaining popularity. The trailhead and main parking area for the trail network are located off Blacktail Road about eight miles from U.S. Highway 93.

The cross-country trails, maintained by volunteers with the North Shore Nordic Club, are groomed for classic and skate skiing seven days a week from Dec. 1 to March 31. Well-behaved dogs under the control of their owners are allowed, but owners are asked to clean up after their furry friends.
