GREAT FALLS – A 72-year-old Trout Creek man was killed and six people were injured in a rollover crash in western Montana caused when a wheel came off a sport utility vehicle.

The Montana Highway Patrol says five of the injured ranged in age from 9 to 15. A 15-year-old boy was the only person wearing a seat belt.

The patrol says the victim was trying to pass another vehicle on Montana Highway 200 near Trout Creek Monday afternoon when the left rear wheel came off the SUV, causing him to lose control. The driver and a 34-year-old woman were thrown from the vehicle, which landed on the driver. He died at the scene. His name has not been released.

The Great Falls Tribune reports the other passengers were girls ages 9, 11, 13 and 14, also from Trout Creek.
