A 26-year-old Whitefish man is in custody after the stabbing death of his 65-year-old father with whom he shared a residence.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office reported that Eric Kevin Hosek, 65, died from stab wounds incurred on July 9. Tanner Hosek, 26, was arrested and is being held at the Flathead County Detention Center for deliberate homicide.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at about 8:30 p.m. on Wilderness Lane in the Whitefish area. A passerby called the police after they noticed a struggle between the two men, who both lived in the home.

When law enforcement arrived, the elder Hosek was already dead from multiple stab wounds, Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said. Tanner Hosek was taken to North Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and is currently in jail awaiting formal charges.

Detectives at the sheriff’s office will continue their investigation into the struggle and subsequent death.
