Missoula School Resource Officer Cleared in Shooting at Car

Officer was placed on administrative leave from Big Sky High School following March incident

MISSOULA — The Montana school resource officer who fired upon a fleeing student’s car has returned to work following investigations by the state and Missoula police.

The Missoulian reports the Missoula County Attorney’s Office declined to take additional action against the officer after reviewing findings from the state Division of Criminal Investigation.

The officer was placed on paid administrative leave following the shooting at Big Sky High School in March. Authorities claimed the teenage student drove at the officer.

The student is scheduled to be sentenced later this month for charges that include criminal endangerment and criminal possession of dangerous drugs.

Prosecutors declined to release the state investigation, saying it is “confidential criminal justice information.”

The Missoula Police Department’s internal review found the officer’s actions were reasonable and did not violate policy.
