Fatal Crash Closes North Section of Kalispell Bypass

Two-vehicle crash causes bypass closure from West Reserve to Four Mile Drive

By Molly Priddy

The Kalispell Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that closed off a section of the U.S. Highway 93 bypass.

On Wednesday afternoon, southbound travelers on Highway 93 were not able to access the bypass from West Reserve Drive to Four Mile Drive as law enforcement investigated the crash.

KPD Sgt. Allen Bardwell said the crash occurred on the bypass when a northbound vehicle crossed the median and ran head on into a southbound vehicle. The driver of the northbound vehicle died in the crash. The driver’s name was not released due to pending notification of their family.

The female driver and male passenger of the southbound vehicle were taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for injuries.

Because the crash involved a fatality, Montana Highway Patrol has joined the investigation. Closing off the bypass allows law enforcement to investigate the crash safely, Bardwell said.

KPD hoped to have the bypass open and accessible from West Reserve by 7 p.m.
