LIVINGSTON — Montana authorities say the body of a 39-year-old Michigan man who was reported missing in the Crazy Mountains has been found.

Park County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brad Bichler says in a statement that searchers found the man Wednesday afternoon in Sweet Grass County northeast of Livingston.

The statement says a Gallatin County search and rescue heli-alpine team recovered the body from a steep, rocky chute.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his relatives. Officials say he was a volunteer for the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance counting mountain goats for a project with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

He was reported missing Monday after hiking that day in rugged terrain near Cave Lake.
