BILLINGS — Members of a Montana college soccer team were rescued while floating down the Yellowstone River near Columbus.

The Billings Gazette reports 22 members of the Rocky Mountain College women’s team were floating on inner tubes tied together when they became entangled on a partially submerged tree Monday.

Columbus Fire Chief Rich Cowger says the members were able to get out of the tubes on their own, but they became stuck on an island in the river. Rescue crews used a pair of boats to ferry the players to shore, working for about an hour and a half to complete the process.

Cowger says none of players required medical attention.

Head coach Richard Duffy says a few of the women were “kind of scraped up, but not too bad.”
