BILLINGS — Montana high school students will be able to take dual enrollment courses for two college credits for free.

The Billings Gazette reports Gov. Steve Bullock and Commissioner of Higher Education Clay Christian announced the decision Thursday, removing the $50.50 per college credit fee charged to high school students.

The decision to remove the fee follows the lead of several colleges in the state that have waived the charge in recent years.

According to the state, participation the dual credit program has nearly tripled since 2012. The state estimates that students taking two dual enrollment courses save about $1,190 by not paying full tuition and fees at college.
