The 2018 Two Bear Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K is scheduled for Sept. 16. After being canceled in 2017 due to forest fires, the event will try again to showcase its new all-road marathon course, which allows participants and spectators to enjoy downtown Whitefish, Depot Park and beautiful, unique views. In addition, the Two Bear Marathon is now an official qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.

Race organizers have added the Two Bear 5K this year, giving runners and walkers of all abilities the opportunity to participate in the race weekend, including the opening ceremonies and post-race celebration.

All races start at 7:30 a.m. in the heart of Whitefish in Depot Park. Participants of the marathon and half-marathon will run the first 13 miles together. The second half of the marathon course takes runners north along Whitefish Lake. This new marathon course is USATF certified, making it an official Boston Marathon qualifying race. The 5K course will separate after the first mile and bring runners back to Depot Park. Spectators, friends and family are encouraged to watch from Depot Park to see all runners start and finish and enjoy visiting vendors and entertainment throughout the morning.

“We are thrilled to give our new course another try,” said Art Krueger, director of The Wave Aquatic and Fitness Center, which hosts the event. “With the addition of the 5K and having all the races start at the same time, it should be quite a sight on race morning.
