Why Not Tax Beer Instead?

Far more people drink far more beer than smokers smoke cigarettes in Montana

Considering the huge tobacco tax increase contained in I-185 got me to thinking that if the legislature truly wanted to raise funds, it would levy an additional tax on beer, not cigarettes. Far more people drink far more beer than smokers smoke cigarettes in Montana. Of course, any suggestion to impose large taxes on beer might well result in an armed insurrection.
