Cascade County Charges 14 Inmates in Regional Jail Riot

Officials say no one was injured during the four-hour riot on July 28

GREAT FALLS — Cascade County prosecutors have filed charges against 14 inmates for a July riot that damaged the regional detention center in Great Falls.

Officials say no one was injured during the four-hour riot on July 28, but inmates caused about $22,000 in damage to the building, including cameras and sprinkler heads. Officers used pepper spray to break up the riot.

The riot occurred just days after Sheriff Bob Edwards said the county would no longer book certain offenders because the 350-bed jail had a population of around 500.

One of the inmates, 30-year-old Kyle Kane Kicking Woman, was charged July 30 with an unrelated assault on a detention officer several hours before the riot.

Kicking Woman is one of nine inmates charged with criminal incitement to riot. The charges were announced Monday.
