A 77-year-old Florence man who went missing southeast of Hamilton during the opening day of big game rifle season has been found safe.

Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton says the man, whose name has not been released, was conscious but required medical attention after he was found Monday afternoon.

The man had been hunting with others but hadn’t returned to their drop camp in the Daly Creek area by noon Saturday. The other hunters looked for him and called for help Saturday night.

Ravalli County Search and Rescue volunteers, with the help of a helicopter crew from the Montana National Guard, found the man about 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) from where he was last seen.

No other information was released.
