BOZEMAN — State health officials say more than $5 million will be put into a five-year project to help pregnant women who are experiencing mental health challenges and substance use disorders.
Montana Gov. Steve Bullock and the Montana Healthcare Foundation announced the mix of federal and private funding Monday in a release.
Goals of the five-year grants include improving timely access and outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women, and reducing rates of drug-positive newborns and the number of children in Montana’s foster care system.
The Department of Public Health and Human Services received a $3.2 million federal grant and the foundation pledged up to $2.4 million in additional funding through 2020.
That will launch the Perinatal Behavioral Health Initiative, which will send money and support to Montana providers to build helpful networks for pregnant and postpartum women.
