BOZEMAN — A Montana State University task force is surveying campus to determine if romantic and sexual relationships between faculty members and students should be banned.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports the eight-member Relationships Policy Task Force, which formed during the summer, is holding a series of meetings with professors, staff members and students, aiming to develop a recommendation.
The university’s current policy allows relationships between professors and adult students under their supervision, but faculty members are required to disclose the relationship to their boss or department head.
The professors then must meet with the university’s legal office to develop plan to prevent a conflict of interest.
The policy does not set restrictions on relationships between professors and the students who are not under their supervision.
